I bet there are people who wish they could remain young forever. Well, you could, just not in this world with fumes that pose health risks and sun rays that all work together to change the atmosphere that God originally intended for us to have. While we may not remain young forever, we can put a little effort into our lives to do things that our older selves would award our younger selves for, if they were to be two distinct species. Some of the points here are not the traditional things you'd expect in a post like this but being a little unorthodox doesn't hurt anyone, if anything, it makes one more adventurous. Let's get the younger self doing more, deliberately.

1. Spending time with loved ones

Yeah, we all know we should do that. But let's get real: knowing is different from doing. The things you do with the people you love create memories that you will truly appreciate with time. There's so much going on in the world around us today. You never know where you might find yourself tomorrow, having to be separate from the ones you love. The consolation in that will be the memories you've created together. Trust me, those memories will keep you going longer than you ever imagined. I hear people say children grow so fast, although I'm yet to become a parent, I know it's true. As a parent who has gotten older since the birth of one's kid(s), I think the ability to re-live your kid's childhood through memories created from spending time with them is something for which you'd be grateful in the future. The world is such a global village now such that creating memories with loved ones abroad over Skype, Facetime or one of those things is also very possible. It won't be convenient if you don't take out the time to make it convenient for you. Having done all that, you won't have to start making a bucket list of things to do with your loved ones if you realise you have just a little time left before you go and meet your maker.

2. Loving yourself

If you love yourself, you'll treat yourself right against all odds. You won't just take anything life throws at you. Things like advising yourself will make a huge difference. The choices we make today shape our tomorrow, hence the reason why you should be candid with yourself. Spend quality time with yourself, enjoy your company. Know your body anatomy inside out and own it. It’s a way of boosting self-confidence as well, such that no one will be able to shame you. The older you get, the more you’ll be glad you did. I'm a firm believer in the fact that for you to love others, you have to love yourself first. This is because if you don't, loving others is going to feel like a job you hate but have to keep because you need its proceeds.

3. Making Loyal and selfless friends

First of all, you have to be a good friend to have good friends. You cannot expect to be disloyal but turn right around and want the exact opposite. Some people have a truck load of friends, which is good if it's important to you to have that many friends. If it's not, then make and keep friends who you know would do for you any day and anytime what you would do for them. Don't get me wrong, you shouldn't do things for them because you are expecting the same if need be but they should have the potential to do that. These are the kind of friends that grow old with you because they are loyal and selfless. One day you would pat yourself on the shoulder for being able to keep such friends.

4. Helping others

To some, it is the natural thing to do, while to others, it has to be instilled into them. It's satisfying and at the same time not patronising. No matter how little the gesture might seem, it does go a long way in affecting the mood of the helped. At least when you get older, you wouldn't feel like a total waste to the society you are in, because a sense of fulfilment is what you will feel as a result of so many worthy gestures with this inclusive.

5. Never quitting when it seemingly becomes too hard

What would have become of Abraham Lincoln, J.K. Rowling, Steven King, Tyler Perry and many other remarkable people if they had quit? Martin Luther King Jr. once said and I quote, “If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Keep moving, never stop. You'll definitely reap the fruits of your perseverance in the future as long as you don't quit. Maybe you should have a rethink if you are considering quitting something you really want right now. Hang in there even in the face of the present inconveniences because there's a brighter future ahead for you.

6. Eating healthy, sleeping well and Exercising

Little improvements in one's diet, exercising a little more and sleeping better can have tremendous effects on the body and overall health over time. If you cannot afford a gym membership or you are too busy to go the gym, you could designate 10-15 minutes to workout at home. It's extremely convenient because you get to do it at your own pace. Exercise benefits the body and skin in ways beyond just losing weight. There's no way the older you won't be glad you made such a decision. I love using the Nike Training Club app NTC+ to work out, it's very efficient, you could give it a try.
