EN VOGUE POUR TOUJOURS

Ten Nontraditional Classics

I was taking a walk the other day while staring admiringly at the rows of stores arranged gracefully on both sides of the alley. Couldn't help but notice the larger than life windows that displayed the contents of the stores with so much attractiveness to draw in at least one out of every five passers-by. While wishfully taking in the environment around me, a strange thought came to mind. I remembered the economics definition I learnt back in high school that says human wants are insatiable. I thought that definition must be flawed somehow if you employ my logic: human wants are not naturally insatiable, it is the endless stream of designs and production of goods that causes humans to want more.

Take for instance, a person buys a different dress every season because the one they had last season is no longer en vogue. If you reason with me, you'd see that my theory could be just as correct. I just need to prove it and boom there you have it: a new discovery in the field of economics.
In other news, as much as I love trendy stuff, clean lines and functionality are a huge part of me. The question fashionable people out there need to ask themselves is that when the trends are gone what would be left of their personalities and wardrobes? Enjoy the trends but never let go of the classics. Speaking about classics! I have chosen to write this post on 10 things that would always be in style. Read on and I hope you enjoy.

1. Smiling

Just because it changes the atmosphere of any environment, brings people together, creates connections that could last forever, lightens your mood if you are having a not-so-good-day because it produces endorphins in your brain which makes you feel good and reduces stress levels. Smiling is contagious, makes you more confident and approachable but most of all smiling isn’t a sport you stop doing just because you grow older.

2. Natural looking makeup

Make-up means different things to different people. To some it is a happy place while to some it’s the highest form of art. These different reasons and artistry are the reasons why there will always be evolving and somewhat revolving make-up trends like contouring, highlighting, strobing, etc, But the natural looking make-up which accentuates your best features will forever remain a staple for people of all ages.

3. Traveling

I always tell anyone who cares to listen that if I had my way I would be in a different city every weekend. There’s something freeing and rewarding about travelling. Despite the chaos that might be going on in your life or around you, you won’t have a care in the world for it because traveling makes you realize that there is so much more to life than just worries. Talk about the unadulterated beauty of nature, the cultures and most of all, the people. The more you experience those fore mentioned, the more you will want to experience and even share. God created us with legs for a reason (to move and never stop moving) and made us natural explorers, even set us in the Garden of Eden and said go hiking…lol

4. Taking outdoors indoors (home décor)

Houseplants have been in existence for quite a long time now. People took plants that throve in nature and brought them indoors. They have somewhat become like pets. Their lively and green nature is lovely to look at as they help lift one’s spirit, decorate the home or office, absorb air pollutants and purify the air and even alleviate extreme situations of dry skin.  Giving and receiving plants is a thing of great joy and pleasure to people. As a matter of fact, people who give plants and flowers are often seen as trustworthy, friendly, emotionally intelligent, extremely caring, loving, successful and valuing achievement and beauty in life.

5. T-shirt

The classic white t-shirt evolved from being worn by military men as undergarments during World War II to a wardrobe quintessential piece today and it’s going nowhere. It is one of those pieces that can be worn over and over again in countless ways. You can dress it up or down to denote whatever status you want it to, from athleisure to person-in-charge.

6. Denim

Of course you already saw this one coming. Just like the white tee, ever since the first pair of jeans was patented in 1873, a great pair has reputably made its way into everyone’s wardrobe. Although they might be coming in various styles and cuts these days it has made its mark and is remaining forever strong.

 7. Love

Just because God is love and He is the creator of everything that is and would ever be, the act of showing love to thyself and the people around you will never go out of style. I talk about love a lot because I’m a strong believer that everyone deserves to love and be loved. I love you, yes you reading this post.

8. Family Traditions

When people grow older especially during the transition from being a teenager to an adult they tend to start disliking family functions and traditions. But guess what, those would always be in style because no matter what anyone says family is family. And as you grow older, despite the rebellion, the bond gets stronger.

9. Your natural hair and hair colour

There’s a reason you were born with it. I don’t believe in chance, I know everything has a purpose so also does our natural hair/natural hair colour. It’s fun to try other stuff but when you are done experimenting and it feels like you’ve done it all the natural option would be waiting for you.

10. Old school Stuff

It’s been proven that the earth revolves so it only makes sense that everything revolves with it and comes back when it’s time for it to come back. The current fashion trend is a huge proof of that amongst other current trends. You might just want to save some of your stuff in the basement and wait for its revolution period to be over and come back as vintage.
